Chongqing Municipality will plant trees over 493,000 hectares of land in the Three Gorges Reservoir and its main tributaries. This is the third project of the kind since the city was established as one directly under the central government.

The city planted trees over 33,000 hectares in 1998 and 66,000 hectares in the 147 townships in the 21 counties and districts in the main tributaries of the Yangtze River.
