Chinese director Zhang Yimou's latest film, "A Simple Noodle Story," was awarded "most disappointing film" prize by a film review book in Beijing Saturday.
The comedy-thriller, inspired from Coen Brothers' 1984 film "Blood Simple," also won awards of "most disappointing director" and "most disappointing actor."
Cheng Qingsong, editor-in-Chief of the Youth Film Handbook, said the awards were decided by Internet Users and 20 independent film critics by assessing the literary text of the films.
Director Lu Chuan's "City of Life and Death" also won two awards, including "most disappointing film" and "most disappointing director."
"The awards are initiated to sweep lousy films off the screen in the country," said Cheng, adding the trophies (brooms) would be mailed to the winners.
The films honored by Cheng's book include Xiao Feng's drama "Qing Shui De Gu Shi," or "The Clear Water," which tells the story of two children's discoveries in adult world, and Guan Hu's comedy "Cow," which stars Huang Bo, best actor winner at the 46th Golden Horse Awards.
