A new, 46-episode TV documentary "Road to Bodhi - Famous Temples And Monks in China" (Qian Nian Pu Ti Lu), showing on CCTV Channel 4, traces the 2,000-year history of Buddhism in China.

It tells this history through the stories of 22 temples, three monks and four sacred mountains associated with Buddhism. The documentary, which has been in the making for seven years, also explores the origin and development of Tibetan Buddhism and Theravada Buddhism. It will take viewers to 227 temples in 98 cities.

It is directed by prominent documentary maker Zhou Bing, whose other works include "Forbidden City" (Gu Gong), "Dunhuang Caves" (Dun Huang) and "The Bund" (Wai Tan).
