A special exhibition celebrating China's victory over Japan in the War of Resistance Against Japan 65 years ago opened yesterday at the National Art Museum of China.

"Victory Belongs to the People" captures the patriotic spirit of the Chinese, their national self-confidence and road to socialism through almost 100 pieces of art works. The pieces, from major art institutions and individual collectors, depict China during the war and following the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The exhibition, which runs until September 16, is designed to portray the Communist leadership as a tower of strength and rallying force after the September 18 Mukden Incident in 1931 and the Chinese as giving total resistance as a nation after the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in 1937.
