Bon Jovi will receive a Global Icon prize at next month's MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid, the music channel said on Tuesday.
Bruce Gillmer, executive vice president of music and talent at MTV Networks International called Bon Jovi "one of the most beloved and influential rock bands of all time." They are winners of the inaugural Global Icon award.
The band will perform in Madrid on November 7 at a show to be broadcast live on MTV websites. Most of the categories are decided by a public online vote.
Among those set to perform at one of pop music's biggest nights outside the United States are Shakira, Linkin Park, Kings of Leon, Ke$ha and Katy Perry.
According to MTV, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres have sold over 125 million albums, performed over 2,700 concerts in over 50 countries to 35 million fans and were the number one touring act in the world in 2008.
