Japanese star hosts anti-drug events

Japanese female entertainer Noriko Sakai visited Beijing last Wednesday to Saturday on a charitable journey to educate the public about the dangers of drug addiction.
In 2009, Sakai was involved in a drug scandal involving amphetamines and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, an incident which effectively ruined her career by annulling her contract with the Japanese entertainment agency Sun Music Japan. She has until November to begin her sentence, as long as she remains crime-free in the interim.
Last Thursday, Sakai visited Beijing Educational Base of Forbidding Narcotic & Hallucinogen (BEBFNA), an organization that has certified her to be an official anti-drug volunteer for her future activities in China.
More than 50 students from Beijing Fangcaodi International School also attended. During this event, Sakai gave a copy of her autobiography, Expiation, to the representative of BEBFNA.
"Sakai also took part in a short anti-drug public-service announcement," said Dong Guang, the host of this event. "Once in a while, we invite celebrities to participate in these kinds of films, and they're always happy to oblige."
On the morning of April 9, Sakai made her last stop at the Nanyuan Social Welfare Center in Fengtai district, Beijing. "It's very meaningful to see how China cares for its aging population," she said.
Sakai said she endeavors to engage in long-term charitable works and currently has no plan to be a star once again.
