Director Zhang Yimou's epic "The Flowers of War" will compete at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards according to the nomination list released on December 15,chinesefilms.cn reports.

"Flowers of War" will compete with other four movies including US production "In the Land of Blood and Honey," Belgium's "The Kid with a Bike," Iran's "A Separation" and Spain's "The Skin I Live in."
Flowers of War Director Zhang and producer Zhang Weiping confirmed the news in a letter published shortly after the list was announced.
The Golden Globe Awards along with the National Board of Review Awards (BAR) and the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards (BFCA) are regarded as indicators of the Academy Awards.
Being left out in the cold by BAR and BFCA, this is the last chance for the movie to grasp the attention of the Oscars.
This is the fifth time for a Zhang Yimou film to compete for a Golden Globe after "To Live" (1994), "Shanghai Triad" (1994), "Hero" (2002) and "House of Flying Daggers" (2004). The awarding ceremony will be held on January 15.
The letter is detailed below:
"The Flowers of War is an international collaboration with more than 600 individuals spanning 24 countries -- their dedication and contribution is greatly appreciated. We are very thankful to the HFPA for the recognition among so many films around. This is truly an honor for all involved."
