About the Book

Where does China stand, and where is it heading? What is the basis of China’s foreign policy? Will China pursue its reform and opening-up policy which has been in place for three decades? What does the Chinese Dream really mean? How will the rejuvenation of China affect the rest of the world? How will other countries benefit from the phoenix-like growth of this Asian nation?

Answers to these and other questions asked by people around the world can be found in the pages of this book by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the People's Republic of China.

This authoritative work contains 80 of Xi's important speeches and interviews, which provide up-to-date insights into his vision of governing the country, building the Party and enhancing China's relations with its neighbors and international society.

In addition, this book contains a wealth of information on the context of China's stretagy for future development, insights into Xi's personal life, and perspectives on the Chinese people and nation as well as the world at large.

About the Author

Xi Jinping, born in 1953, spent his early school years in Beijing. In his teens during the Cultural Revolution, he volunteered to go as an “educated youth” to a remote village in the northwestern province of Shaanxi. He lived and worked there from 1969 to 1975, and eventually became head of the village. He first graduated from university with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and later qualified as a doctor of laws from Tsinghua University.

From the 1980s to 2002 he served as a county official, then went on to become top leader in the provinces of Fujian, Zhejiang and the municipality of Shanghai – all situated along China’s eastern coast, a region known for its dynamic economic growth. In these positions he gained experience as a local leader. In 2002 he moved to the capital city of Beijing, and for the next ten years he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee, and the vice president of China. He was elected general secretary of the CPC Central Committee in 2012 and president of the People’s Republic of China in 2013.
