BYD to build solar power dream—China Business News
Battery producer BYD Company—BYD stands for build your dream—plans to make a great leap forward into solar power. It began constructing a 22.5 billion yuan (US$3.3 billion), 5,000 megawatts solar power plant in 2009 and plans to complete it in 2015.
BYD public relations manager Xu Anjin said solar power is part of the company's new energy plans, but refused to comment further on the behemoth project.
In 2009, BYD began building a 100-megawatt solar power plant in Shangluo City in Shaanxi Province, at a cost of 500 million yuan (US$73.5 million).
Shanghai Airlines to delist Jan 25—Oriental Morning Post
Shanghai Airlines, which is set to merge with China Eastern Airlines, will delist from the Shanghai Stock Exchange on January 25, one week earlier than previously scheduled.
Under the terms of the merger, China Eastern Airlines, the country's third-largest carrier, will swap 1.3 of its shares for each share of Shanghai Airlines. Following the merger Shanghai Airlines will retain its brand, liabilities, and contractual obligations.
Huawei eyes e-book market—China Business News
Huawei Technologies, China's leading mobile equipment provider, unveiled its first e-book reader yesterday, aiming to capture a slice of a booming market that grew by 265 percent last year.
The telecom equipment maker's move into the sector began as early as 2008 when it initiated an e-book research project. Its long-time cooperation with China Mobile will help give it the upper hand over rivals.
Current e-book vendors include Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple, Sony, Samsung and China's Hanwang.
QPI seeks petrochemical project in Hainan—National Business Daily
Qatar Petroleum International Corp is in talks with Dalian Shide Group and another Chinese oil firm about a plan to build a 38 billion yuan (US$5.58 billion) alkene plant in Yangpu, Hainan Province, according to an official of the Hainan Yangpu Economic Development Zone.
The new plant, which is expected to take at least three years to complete, will have a capacity of 3.9 million tons of alkene. QPI will supply liquefied petroleum gas to the plant.
