Chinese equities continued the downward trend of the previous trading day to open slightly lower Wednesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index declining 1.09 percent, to open at 2,804.51 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 0.98 percent to 10,853.13 points.
