SAIC Motor Corporation (stock code: 600104) announced on Monday that it sold 289,239 vehicles in May, up 26 percent from last year.
SAIC Motor, the largest automaker in China, sold a total of 1.49 million vehicles in the first five months of the year, 48 percent increase from last year's pace.
The company's production reached 292,885 cars in May, up 33 percent. From January to May, the company produced 1.44 million cars, up 47 percent from 2009.
SAIC Motor also released auto-sales statistics of joint ventures with General Motors and Volkswagen. Shanghai General Motors sold about 83,300 units, 48.21 percent more than last year. Shanghai Volkswagen sold about 73,500 units, 28 percent more than the previous year.
Shares of SAIC Motor declined 2.79 percent and closed at 16.01 yuan on Monday.
