Global joint efforts
Struan John Stirton Stevenson, a member of the European Parliament, said at the summit that Europe is much stronger in technology and its industrial foundation.
"We strongly hope to join hands with China to advance the development of emerging industries," Stevenson said.
De Villepin emphasized the main challenge of world's economy is shifting to a low-carbon and sustainable growth pattern.
"I do believe that we have the solutions we just need to find the best way to cooperate together," de Villepin said.
Zheng believes developing emerging industries will benefit at least three areas.
First, it will enhance innovation ability and help lead the way in technology advancement and is the fundamental solution to global economic development, trade imbalance and employment, Zheng said.
Second, developing emerging industries can give traditional industries a push for upgrades and lay a solid foundation for future development.
Finally he added, from the perspective of average people, developing emerging industries can bring a lot of benefits to their daily life.
In addition, the summit aims to promote the development of emerging industries, including new energy, new material, energy efficiency and conservation, biomedicines, ocean engineering, electronics and high-end manufacturing, as well as to enhance cooperation between government, business and research centers.
The summit lasts for three days in Changchun City, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province. The hosts behind this event are APCEO and the Jilin provincial government.
Themed "Industrial Revolution and Green Economy," the summit will select top 10 most valuable new technologies and reveal the top 50 business rankings of emerging industries.
