Japanese automaker Toyota Motor announced on Tuesday that it will voluntarily repair the coolant pumps on 650,000 Prius hybrid cars worldwide for free, the Jinghua Times reported on Wednesday.
According to Toyota, they have a defective engine coolant pump that could result in overheating of the pump and loss of engine power.
The repair campaign covers 2,588 vehicles in China.
Toyota China's spokesman Niu Yu emphasized that this is not a recall. Auto makers often conduct repair campaigns, which are completely different from safety recalls.
China's business press carried the story above on Wednesday. China.org.cn has not checked the stories and does not vouch for their accuracy.
