Leaders of top economies brought together in Seoul for the G20 economic summit discussed Friday energy, anti-corruption issues and the outcome of the Seoul G20 Business Summit in the fifth plenary session.
South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, who chairs the two-day economic summit, discussed fossil fuel subsidies, energy price volatility and maritime environment protection, and endorsed an action plan on anti-corruption along with other leaders.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who co-chairs the expert group on energy price volatility, and Russia's Dmitry Medvedev, who leads the expert group tasked with maritime environmental protection, were among the most vocal leaders on the issues.
Calling for a more active role by the private sector in leading the world economy's recovery and growth, Lee briefed the G20 leaders on the outcome of Thursday's business summit, and asked for their interest in the joint statement issued at the end of the summit.
The president also stressed the need for holding the business summit regularly as an official process at the G20 summit.
