Friends and relatives of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching Ling witnessed the unveiling of a commemorative white marble statue at the Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling on September 30. The statue of Soong commemorates the former honorary president of the People's Republic of China.
Chairman of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) Hu Qili, and vice chairman Liang Jinquan unveiled the statue before more than 100 guests.
"We hold this commemoration ceremony to encourage all the followers and successors of the great cause of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Mother Soong Ching Ling to keep in mind the last will of Mother Soong Ching Ling, which was to safeguard world peace and cultivate younger generations of the nation to enable them to protect Sun-Soong culture and conduct research on Sun and Song and spread their great spirit," said CSCLF vice chairman Huang Yuejin.
The statue is about 1.8 meters high and is situated at the museum’s All-life Exhibition of Soong Ching Ling. Facing forward and smiling, the statue vividly portrays Soong's elegance and wisdom and captures the essence of her character and spirit.
The statue was the work of renowned sculptors Zhang Dedi and Zhang Runkai.
Zhang Dedi, who also attended the unveiling ceremony, told China.org.cn that it took her and her husband over seven months to finish the statue. The greatest challenge lay in accurately and vividly presenting Soong's dignified bearing and subtle emotions.
