China must and should be able to curb the misuse of public funds and vehicles by promoting democracy and public supervision, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Saturday during an online chat with netizens.
Responding to a netizen's comment on the misuse of public vehicles for personal purposes and public funds for banquets and overseas trips by some government officials, Wen said "only democracy could help the governance sustain."
Curbing the misuse of public funds was part of the country's anti-corruption campaign, Wen said.
The government must make the use of public resources transparent by having all administrative expenditures included in the budget system and known by the public, he said, adding that democracy is vital to anti-graft efforts.
