Construction of China's first National Marine Museum will begin on June 8 in Tianjin Municipality, an official with the municipal oceanic administration said Wednesday.
Cai Yuming, director of the Tianjin Oceanic Administration, revealed the plan at a municipal ocean department meeting.
"The National Marine Museum project has been approved by the State Council and will be built in the Binhai new district, east of Tianjin," he said.
The National Marine Museum, the first comprehensive marine museum in China, will be a base for research and development, communication, education and tourism, he said.
The construction of the museum will help promote national marine development and local economic development, Cai added.
