Former senior legislator in northeast China's Jilin Province Mi Fengjun went on trial in northern Tianjin Municipality Thursday for taking bribes.
According to a statement released by the Tianjin procuratorate, Mi, former vice chairman of the Jilin Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee, was accused of receiving bribes worth 6.82 million yuan (one million U.S. dollars) from sixteen people who sought to benefit from Mi's influence.
The statement did not give more information on the charge.
Mi was removed from his post and expelled from the Communist Party of China in February 2009 for the alleged violations.
