Melting snow has caused floods in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, killing livestock and damaging infrastructure since mid-March, local authorities said Monday.
The floods in the Altay Area had killed 471 head of livestock and washed away 62 bridges as of Monday. Some 944 animal pens had been destroyed and 1,080 damaged.
Some 5,200 hectares of farmland and 2,353 hectares of grasslands had been submerged while 873 houses collapsed and 7,448 were damaged.
Huocheng, Xinyuan and Yining counties in Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Ili were hit by the floods on Friday and Saturday, local government said.
In parts of Xinyuan, also known as Kunes, and in the Narat sightseeing area, 207 hectares of farmland were submerged and 2,500 meters of embankment destroyed.
Residents have been evacuated and no human casualties have been reported.
