Police have detained a man who allegedly stabbed a doctor to death and injured a nurse at a hospital in east China's Shandong Province.
The 45-year-old man, surnamed Zhou, was caught after he stabbed a nurse around 7:20 a.m. Friday at Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, in Jinan, capital of Shandong, said Sun Lianhe, head of the criminal police detachment of Jinan City Public Security Bureau.
The woman was receiving emergency treatment, said a hospital spokesman surnamed Wang.
The suspect, a resident in Lixia District of Jinan, stabbed a doctor in his fifties to death around 8 a.m. one day earlier, Sun said.
Both victims worked with the hospital's cancer center.
An initial police investigation showed Zhou committed the attacks because he thought the hospital was to blame for his father's death.
Zhou's father was treated for liver cancer at the center 13 years ago, according to the investigation. He died after treatment failed.
It was not known whether the victims were involved in the treatment of Zhou's father, Sun said.
Police are continuing to investigate attacks.
