Chinese President Hu Jintao Monday urged the building of grassroots organizations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) ahead of the 89th founding anniversary of the Party on July 1.
Hu, also the CPC Central Committee General Secretary, made the remarks at a group study of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau on Monday.
Hu said Party cadres at the grassroots levels must take the lead and play exemplary roles to keep the Party closely connected to the people.
The CPC must extend grassroots organizations to cover the "whole society" and keep the people united around the Party organizations, Hu said.
He called on grassroots organizations to explore new means and channels to improve their capabilities to promote the country's development in a scientific way, and sustain social stability and harmony.
He also encouraged CPC members to explore diverse ways to enhance intra-Party democracy.
The CPC should set down a long-term mechanism to educate, manage, and serve its members to inject vitality and keep their advanced nature, he said.
Hu said development in urban and rural CPC grassroots organizations must be coordinated through mutual support and sharing of resources.
More support should be given to enhance Party building in former revolutionary bases, areas inhabited mainly by ethnic minority groups, border and poor areas, he said.
Hu asked Party organizations to better care for grassroots CPC members as they had long been working on the front line, faced more difficulties and conflicts, and worked under great pressure.
The CPC was founded on July 1, 1921.
