Police in central China Henan Province is investigating the three-month disappearance of a senior city official who was suspected for being involved in some bribery cases that toppled four other officials.
Li Weimin, 53, Deputy Party Secretary of Anyang City went missing on his way back to Anyang after attending a funeral in Beijing in May, reported Yunnan Information Daily today.
His driver said Li and he stopped for night at a hotel in Shijiangzhuang City, Hebei Province. Li never showed up the next morning. Li's family and colleagues lost contact with him since then.
Rumors and speculation about Li's disappearance surged after four other chief officials in the departments of transportation, legal and housing Sanmenxia City were sentenced for taking huge bribes. Li was Sanmenxia City's personnel department chief before transferring to Anyang.
