A man wearing a "Monkey King" mask and a white sun hat yesterday picked up his jackpot of 177 million yuan (US$27.3 million) in the southwest city of Chongqing.
The winner of the China Sports Lottery, who didn't reveal his identity, appeared alone in a sports outfit featuring a full-face mask to claim his check.
He then donated 5 million yuan of his prize money to charity, reported the Chongqing Economic Times.
Appearing to be in his 30s, the mysterious winner arrived at 11:55am, almost 90 minutes late.
"I was so nervous and I couldn't eat or sleep well after I knew the winning ticket was lying in my drawer at home," he said.
The man said he was a local resident and denied earlier speculation that he would relocate to another city. A veteran lottery player surnamed Song who claimed to know the identity of the winner said the winner would move out of Chongqing after the jackpot was unveiled on June 27.
But the winner's plans remained a secret as he immediately left for a bank to deposit the check.
The 5 million yuan donation has made the man the most generous lottery winner in Chongqing. Earlier, a teacher in central China's Henan Province donated 10.5 million yuan to charity after he claimed the mainland's third biggest-ever jackpot of 258 million yuan.
