Chinese moving to foreign countries after the opening-up policy was introduced into China in 1978 have made great contributions to their new homes, said the Blue Book of Overseas Chinese released on August 15, 2011 in Beijing.

According to the report, one third of the founders or senior executives in Silicon Valley, the US technology hub, are of Chinese origin.

After China introduced the reform and opening-up policy in 1978, many students from the Chinese mainland went to universities in the United States. A large number of them later decided to migrate and work there.

Unlike their predecessors, the new emigrants tended to be well-educated and work at high-tech companies, financial institutions, governments, cultural industries and universities.

Initiated by the Overseas Chinese Institute in Huaqiao University, the blue book was the first of its kind to give a general view of Chinese emigrant communities.
