Seven people died, one was injured and two others are missing when an overloaded three-wheeled motorcycle plunged into a valley in southwest Yunnan Province, local police said Thursday.
A total of 10 people were aboard the motorcycle when the accident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday near the village of Lamaluo in Fugong County, according to the police.
The motorcycle overturned and crashed into the Lamaluo River, about 160 meters down in the valley, police said.
One passenger, only identified as Pi, suffered light injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Seven bodies have been recovered, and Pi's wife, son and daughter all died in the accident.
Rescuers are searching for two missing individuals.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Also on Wednesday, at least two people were killed in a separate road accident involving a farm vehicle in south Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The vehicle, carrying about two dozen people, overturned and plunged into a 30-meter deep valley in Yao Autonomous County of Dahua, according to local police.
