Police in Wuhan City of central Hubei province have detained two people for allegedly making more than 1,200 fake train tickets as the National Day holiday travel rush is approaching, the public security bureau of the Ministry of Railways said on Thursday.
Police confiscated 20 fake train tickets, more than 1,200 tickets in the process of being forged, and over 1,200 counterfeit invoices, the ministry said.
Train tickets are a hot commodity in China before holidays as hundreds of millions of people plan to return home for family gatherings or simply travel, and scalpers seek to take advantage.
Railway stations across China expect a record 69 million passengers during the 7-day National Day holiday travel peak that starts Saturday, according to the ministry.
