A new kindergarten opened on Monday at the site of one that was closed after Wednesday's deadly school bus crash in northwest China's Gansu province, local authorities said.
Twenty-one people, including 19 preschoolers and two adults, died and 43 others were injured last Wednesday morning when a nine-seat school bus illegally carrying 64 people collided head-on with a coal truck in Yulinzi township, Zhengning county in the city of Qingyang.
The Little Doctor Kindergarten, the owner of the school bus, was shut down on Nov. 16 by the education bureau in Zhengning county following the accident.
The new public kindergarten, Yulinzi Township Kindergarten, has hired 29 teachers, including three psychological counselors, according to the local education bureau.
A 45-seat school bus has been donated to the school by a local oil company.
A total of 205 children have registered in the new kindergarten as of 10:00 a.m. Monday. The closed nursery used to house 737 children, the education bureau said.
A new site for the Yulinzi Township Kindergarten is in the planning stages, and is expected to open next autumn.
