The accident happened at 6:54 a.m. in the city of Shenzhen when a Shenzhen Longhu School bus crashed into a truck at an intersection, said an official from the city's traffic police.
The truck driver, and 12 people on the bus, including a teacher and 11 primary and junior high students from the school, were injured, but none are in serious condition, police said.
The school has been identified as a private institute for both primary and junior high students.
China has promised nationwide safety checks on school buses following a fatal accident in which 21 people, including 19 preschoolers, were killed.
In the November accident, 64 people were crammed on a nine-seat bus before it collided head-on with a coal truck in northwest Gansu province.
The incident sparked national outcry and Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday urged relevant government departments to quickly create safety regulations and standards for the country's school buses.
