The 2024 World Conference on Traditional Medicine opened today at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, drawing 3,585 participants, including 611 overseas delegates from 85 countries and regions.

Beijing has been improving its traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) service system through focused initiatives in practice and innovation.

The city now boasts a ratio of 1.14 TCM practitioners per thousand residents and houses the nation's only integrated Chinese and Western medicine center.

The capital leads China in several TCM categories, including the number of experimental zones for TCM inheritance and innovation, specialized hospitals, and flagship facilities combining Chinese and Western medicine. These institutions spearhead major clinical projects addressing challenging and complex diseases through integrated treatment methods.

Beijing's community-level TCM service capabilities continue to improve, with dedicated clinics operating in all community health centers. The city has established TCM diagnostic areas in 839 community health stations and village facilities while implementing regular visits from senior TCM practitioners to grassroots locations.

The city has also developed its TCM tourism infrastructure, launching 59 cultural bases, 13 health preservation tourism routes, and 40 international medical tourism services packages.

Under the theme "Diversity Inheritance Innovation: Traditional Medicine for All," the two-day conference features plenary sessions, parallel forums, two TCM exhibitions and an experience area.
