Do people understand his motives? Guo does not seem to care.
"I didn't do this to become famous. It's just that some people need help, and someone has to step forward and lend them a hand."
Some people have called Guo a "modern-day Lei Feng", after the PLA soldier who was declared a symbol of altruism by Chairman Mao Zedong in the 1960s. Lei had also been a steel worker before he died in a road accident in 1962.
In an echo of the Lei Feng story, Chinese senior officials have urged the public, especially young people, to learn from Guo's selflessness and hard work.
