China is in full preparation of the annual session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, said a spokesman Friday. [Special report: CPPCC press conference]
As of 12 a.m. Friday, 1,501 out of 2,262 members of the CPPCC National Committee had registered at the secretariat of the session, which received 792 proposals and 429 speech transcripts, Zhao Qizheng, spokesman for the annual session of the CPPCC National Committee, told reporters at a press conference.
The proposals cover a wide range of topics that are related with many aspects of economic and social development, Liu Xiaobing, deputy director of the proposal team of the fifth session of the CPPCC National Committee, told Xinhua on Friday.
Liu said the proposals are mainly focused on developing the real economy, promoting small and medium-sized enterprises, boosting domestic demand, and improving environmental and air qualities.
The proposals also cover topics such as increasing food and medicine safety, improving health care system at local levels, strengthening social management and promoting cultural prosperity, according to Liu.
The Fifth Session of the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC is scheduled to open at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The session will last ten days and end on March 13, Zhao said.
At the opening meeting, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, is expected to deliver a report on the work undertaken by the CPPCC National Committee's Standing Committee during the past year, according to the schedule published at the CPPCC website.
During the annual session, more than 2,000 CPPCC National Committee members will hear and discuss Jia's report and the report on how their suggestions and proposals were handled since the last session, held in March 2011.
The CPPCC members will also attend the annual session of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, as non-voting participants.
