All five miners who were trapped in a flooded coal mine in north
China's Hebei Province have been rescued following a
30-hour rescue operation, said a local government source on
Thursday.
The five miners are receiving treatment in hospital and none are
in critical condition, said Su Xiaoqiang, an official with the
Qinhuangdao City government.
The flood occurred at around 1:00?AM Wednesday in the
Baoshan coal mine in Funing County of Qinhuangdao City, trapping
five miners underground.
Rescuers pumped water from the mine for more than 30 hours and
successfully saved the five trapped miners.
Investigators say the flood occurred in a worked-out section of
the mine.
The mine, with an annual production capacity of 15,000 tons, is
among those to be closed down by the end of this year, according to
the provincial work safety administration.
