The identities of 26 of those killed in Monday's fatal train wreck in east China's Shandong Province, which left 70 dead and 416 injured, have reportedly been confirmed.

The names of the victims, 16 male and 10 female, are on Sina.com. They were mostly local residents or from north and northeast China, including at least two Beijing residents, the site said. It did not say how it had obtained or compiled the list of names.

Two were college students in Beijing: 25-year-old Wang Tingting was enrolled at the University of International Business and Economics, while 23-year-old Huang Hao studied at Renmin University of China.

Also, 47-year-old Zheng Changling was identified as a policeman on duty on the train and 42-year-old Zhao Jingwei was a reporter with the local Zibo Television Station.

Eight injured passengers are also listed on the site, with their injuries described.

The youngest injured passenger appears to have been a boy aged about three, Liu Jinhang, who suffered a broken arm.

Hu Weidong, a coach of China's national sailing team, was in critical condition with neck and spinal injuries.

Four French tourists are also on the injured list but are said to be "in stable condition."

Sources at a meeting of the State Council investigation panel said the panel, headed by Wang Jun, director of the State Administration of Work Safety, was set up on Tuesday morning in Zibo City, Shandong.

"All the injured have been hospitalized and the dead have been transferred to local funeral homes," said Wang at the meeting. "The accident site has been cleared and the stranded passengers evacuated."

Chinese websites have posted the phone numbers of local officials and hospitals to help victims' families get in touch.

Major sites, including Sohu.com, Sina.com and Dzwww.com, released the names and phone numbers of the officials with the bureaus of emergency affairs on late Monday or early Tuesday.

The local newspaper in Yantai, one of the cities along the route of the derailed train, published a phone number list for relatives, which included emergency numbers and addresses of all local hospitals.
