The mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) on Saturday expressed thanks to the Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) and all circles on the island for their aid to the quake-hit Qinghai Province.
"The SEF and all circles on the island have offered relief supplies and sent a medical team after the quake, which fully reflects the ties of brotherhood at a time of hardship," said ARATS in a reply letter to the SEF on Saturday.
The SEF expressed condolences in a letter to the ARATS on Friday night and promised that Taiwan would donate one million U.S. dollars for the post-quake reconstruction in Qinghai.
The ARATS and the SEF are authorized by both sides to handle cross-Strait issues.
The 7.1-magnitude quake that struck Qinghai on April 14 has left at least 2,192 dead, 78 missing and more than 12,000 injured, along with huge economic losses.
The Taiwan-based Eden Social Welfare Foundation donated one million new Taiwan dollars (32,000 U.S. dollars) on Friday for an orphan school in the hard-hit Yushu Prefecture.
Taiwan has sent a 20-member medical team with medicines and equipments to Qinghai to help treat those injured in the quake.
