Chinese in Europe and some Brazilian students offered their aid and encouragement to China's quake-ravaged regions by different means on Saturday.

The Chinese Students and Scholars Association, United Kingdom (CSSA-UK), held a gathering to collect donations for the quake-hit regions.

Chinese students and scholars put on performances at the gathering, and expressed their condolences toward those affected by the devastating quake on May 12.

CSSA-UK President Ye Haitao said all the collected money will be delivered to the victims of the quake as soon as possible.

Chinese Ambassador to Britain Fu Ying said the CSSA-UK swiftly held a series of donation activities after the quake, which fully showed the patriotism of Chinese students and scholars in Britain.

Meanwhile, the European Chinese-language media association issued a letter at its eighth seminar to appeal for more attention and aid to China's quake-hit regions.

The letter said over the past weeks, Chinese-language media in Europe has given a speedy and extensive coverage of the quake disaster and quake-relief efforts, to keep Chinese in Europe well informed of the situation in the disaster regions.

The letter appealed to all Europe's Chinese-language media for more reports on the latest quake-relief efforts and publishing contact ways of China's charity organizations to facilitate donation.

In Brazil, the century-old Mackenzie primary and middle school in the capital city of Brasilia issued a public letter at the opening ceremony of its sports meet which has the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games as its theme to encourage students in China's quake-hit regions.

"The quake has killed your family members and destroyed your homes. You are filled with sadness, which is deeply felt by us," read the letter, which also encouraged the quake-affected Chinese students to continue their studies.

Attendants at the ceremony observed a one-minute silence and held a donation for the quake's victims.

Up to midday Saturday, the 8.0-magnitude quake, which occurred on May 12 with its epicenter at Wenchuan county of China's southwestern Sichuan province, has left 69,134 people dead, 374,061 injured and 17,681 others missing.
