Sharon Stone: I never apologized
Adjust font size:

Stone insisted her comments in Cannes had been taken out of context.

"Clearly, I sound like an idiot," Sharon Stone commented after she watched the Internet video of her remarks from Cannes. She explained that she appeared happy because she got some good news from a Tibetan foundation at that time, without realizing that she "misspoke" on the earthquake.

She was asked on May 22 if she had heard about the disaster that recently hit China's Sichuan Province, and her answer was:

"Of course I have. You know it was very interesting, because at first, you know, I wasn't very happy about the way the Chinese are treating Tibetans because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else. And so I have been very concerned about how to think and what to do about that, because I don't like... that.

"And I've been concerned about how should we deal with the Olympics because they've not been nice to the Dalai Lama, who is a good friend of mine. And all this earthquake stuff happened and I thought: 'Is that karma? When you are not nice the bad things happen to you.'"

After the video of Hong Kong Cable TV was uploaded to YouTube.com, all of China became furious. Many outpoured their anger on Chinese Internet forums and blogs. Chinese stars, including Zhang Ziyi and Samo Hung, cinema chains and all Chinese entertainment media also threatened to boycott the star and her film products once for all.

Christian Dior China has dropped her images from any Chinese beauty products of the company. The Shanghai International Film Festival, which invited the star to China in 2007, has decided to permanently ban Stone and her films.

Sharon Stone also lost her role in the upcoming movie "Mermaid Island" when the film's producers decided not to sign her after her "karma" comment.

Chinese citizens called Sharon Stone ignorant of the Tibet issue and accused her of having a cold-blooded reaction towards Chinese people's sorrows, which also speaks of her disrespect for life.
