Bee Therapy Popular in China

"I had not thought that small bees could be an effective treatment," said a patient at the newly founded bee therapy center in Hebei Province, north China.

More and more patients, who heard of the wonder of bee therapy, came here for a treatment.

"In recent years, we use bees to treat rheumatism, sclerodermia and bedsores, and it proves to be quite effective," said Han Qiaoju, chief doctor of the center.

Han is vice-chairperson of the China Bee Therapy Academy. Her scientific report on bee therapy was applauded at the international convention on bee therapy in Belgium in 1997.

Last year, Han attended the third seminar on good medical therapies in east and west medicine in Germany and delivered her thesis on sclerodermia treatment by bee therapy. Her paper was awarded and compiled into the book of Classical Therapies in East and West Medicine which was published in Germany.

Han said that more and more patients began to take bee therapy and the founding of the center would promote development of Chinese bee therapy and its international acceptance.
