China's east Zhejiang Province was ranked third in its urbanites' annual income in 2001, latest statistics showed.
The average annual income of urban residents in Zhejiang reached 10,465 yuan (US$1,261), according to the statistics released by Zhejiang Provincial Statistical Bureau.
The statistics also showed that the average annual income of Chinese urbanites was 6,860 yuan (about US$828). Shanghai, Beijing and Guangdong were ranked first, second and fourth, with per capita income of 12,883 yuan (about US$1,557), 11,578 yuan (about US$1,398) and 10,415 yuan (about US$1,257) respectively.
The annual income in 2001 increased by 12.8 percent, 3.6 percentage points more than the national average increase rate.
Local economists said that Zhejiang people greatly benefited from the continuous economic growth in the province, which has been regarded as a new economic powerhouse featuring thriving of private sectors.
