The infection rate of Beijing SARS medical workers has dropped by a large margin," said Cai Fuchao, standing member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Beijing Municipal Committee and director of the publicity department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee. "Though medical workers still occupied the largest number among Beijing's total diagnosed SARS patients by yesterday, if categorized by profession," he added.
Cai Fuchao made this remark at the fifth news conference held by the Beijing SARS Control Working Group in the Beijing International Hotel at 10:00 am this morning. He also briefed the domestic and overseas correspondents on latest SARS control work.
According to Cai, statistics show that the number of diagnosed SARS patients who are medical workers remained at two digits from April 21 to May 1, with an average of 15.81 patients daily. Yet in the week May 2 to yesterday, the number dropped to one digit, with an average of 6.3 patients daily. Beijing had four each yesterday and the day before yesterday.
?In face of such a positive change, we can't slack off in our endeavor to minimize the infection rate of medical workers,? stressed Cai Fuchao.
?This is not only key to guarantee the health and safety of the mass medical workers but also significant for us to cut off the infection chain and source,? said Mr. Cai Fuchao.
