The fifth session of the Eighth Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) began in Guangzhou Saturday.
The meeting was presided over by Guo Rongchang, chairman of the Guangdong Provincial CPPCC Committee.
In a work report, Pan Jinpei, vice-chairman of the committee, said committee members conducted surveys on promoting economic development in mountainous areas and readjusting the economic structure of the Pearl River Delta last year.
They held four forums on promoting cultural development and protecting water resources of the Hanjiang River in 2001.
According to the meeting, by the end of last year, the motion examination committee had received 533 motions, all of which have been handled. About 29 percent, or 137 motions, have been adopted. The motions covered a wide range of subjects, including science and technology, education, public health and environmental protection.
