A major bridge in Yibin, in southwest China's Sichuan Province, partially collapsed in the early hours of Wednesday morning, leaving at least two people dead and another two injured.
Following a sudden break of the suspension cable, sections at both ends of the bridge collapsed simultaneously, causing the vehicles on the bridge to fall into the river, according to witnesses.
The bridge's middle part still remains firm, on which a heavy truck is stranded.
A team of officials have been sent to the spot to instruct rescue work and investigate the accident.
Spanning the Jinsha River, the bridge was built in the early 1990s, and functions as a vital passage connecting the city and a neighboring development zone.
