Chinese Vice Premier Wen Jiabaocalled for the planning departments of the government to increase vision and efficiency by setting up economic policies in a scientific way.
He made the remark at a national planning meeting which concluded in Beijing Tuesday.
He asked planning officials to assess the tougher side of problems and to foresee the prolonged impact of these problems when planning the economy for 2002. He asked them to make the best possible counterplans.
He said the central government has made a scientific assessment of the present complicated and changing international situation.
Wen emphasized that next year's basic economic policy should increase confidence, focus on expanding domestic demand, accelerate economic restructuring, open wider to the outside world and maintain the momentum of economic growth.
He said the country has to coordinate the efforts of expanding domestic demand with economic restructuring, reform of the economic system, increasing employment, improving living standards and achieving sustainable growth.
