University Students Call for Morning Reading
Adjust font size:

Student organizations in over 20 universities across China, including the prestigious Peking University and Tsinghua University, have advocated reading traditional classics in the morning.

The Beijing Morning Post reports that the proposal was put forward ahead of the World Book Day which falls on April 23, and has gained support from nine professors.

In addition to promoting reading classics across universities, advocates plan to expand activities in parks and residential communities in near future.

A Peking University student Xiao Huiling, who regularly reads in the morning, said reading classics everyday helps to calm her soul.

Yu Dunkang, one of the supporters from the Chinese Academy of Social Science, said students should read more classical literature and teachers should provide more guidance to improve their understanding of the works.
