Beijing Police Crack Down on Illegal Internet Bars

Beijing police have cracked down on a number of illegal Internet bars on a street of bars in Changping District in the northern part of the city.

There are over 100 Internet bars in the street adjacent to the university area of the district. The police confiscated 32 computers and issued 23 requisitions for rectification.

During Friday's operation, police found some bars providing pornographic material.

Police here said that they know that Beijing has 1,921 Internet bars employing 5,801 people and owning 49,063 computers. However, only 310 of the bars have acquired security check certificates approved by the Beijing Police Bureau. About 800 bars have no valid business licenses.
