Political Work as the Lifeblood of the People's Armed Forces
Political work ensures the CPC's leadership over the armed forces. This principle can be traced back to the revolution of the 1920s. It was developed soon after the founding of the Red Army, and was confirmed at the Gutian Meeting. A resolution known as the Gutian Meeting Resolution, drafted by Mao Zedong and adopted at the Ninth Congress of Party Representatives of the Fourth Army of the Red Army, outlined for the first time a systematic framework guiding political work in the armed forces.
Over the long years of revolution, economic and social development and reform, political work under the leadership of the CPC has been the lifeblood of the armed forces. It ensures their absolute loyalty to the Party, provides an inexhaustible source of strength to overcome heavy odds and confront daunting challenges, and ensures that the people's armed forces always adhere to their nature and fine conduct.
It has been proved in history by our practice that political work is what empowers the people's armed forces. It is their most salient characteristic and greatest strength. Whatever changes to the way wars are fought, whatever changes to the domestic and international environment, whatever changes to their organizational structure, political work will always be their lifeblood.
