A Leading Power Supplier in West-to-East Electricity Transmission Project
The West-to-East Electricity Transmission Project is a major part of the Chinese government's endeavor to develop the country's western region on a large scale as well as an important measure for balancing the development of eastern and western regions by leveraging their complementary advantages. Guizhou is a leading power supplier for the project's South Channel. As of December 2020, Guizhou had cumulatively transmitted more than 600 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Guangdong Province and its surrounding areas. In 2020, Guizhou supplied 50 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Guangdong, more than ten times that in 2002. Guizhou has become one of the industrial arteries of China, "Factory of the World", while powering the Pearl River Delta region.
In 2020, Guizhou's installed generating capacity reached 74.78 million kilowatts, with 232.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity generated, and clean energy accounted for more than half of the installed capacity. It is expected that the province's installed generating capacity will exceed 100 million kilowatts by 2025.
