Int'l Education Exchange Event to be Held in Beijing
The 2002 International Education Cooperation Week (IECW), the largest international education cooperation and exchange event ever to be hosted in China since its entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), will take place in Beijing from Sept. 24 to 30.

The event will kick off with the Sino-US Education Cooperation Forum on Sept. 25, followed by the International Education Exposition on Sept. 28.

During the three-day forum, Chinese and foreign officials and experts will discuss topics including "strategies for China's higher education following its entry into the WTO", "management and development of universities", and "remote education and joint venture schools", which will focus on the development of private higher education, international cooperative education, the adjustment of China's educational policies and laws and other social issues.

The exposition will invite world renowned educational institutions such as Harvard University, the US Educational Foundation, the US Educational Testing Service, the British Embassy in China and the Australian Embassy in China to give eight lectures on "scholarship and university application", "options for management training", "TOEFL and its future development", and other issues of concern.

It will also feature a special section for US universities. Representatives from more than 30 renowned US universities, including Harvard University, MIT, the University of California, and Columbia University will take the floor during the exposition, making it the highest-level educational exposition ever held in China.

Ji Baocheng, chairman of the Organizing Committee of the IECW, said the IECW will focus on "educational policies and laws, management and operation, finance and investment, the coordination of education and society, and the role of modern science and technology in education, all of which will be discussed by professionals and scholars from both China and abroad."
