Visiting Chinese Minister of Culture Sun Jiazheng stressed on Monday that Sino-Egyptian cultural exchanges will be beneficial to both.
"The strengthening of cultural links between China and Egypt will enhance mutual understanding between the two countries and peoples, and lay a solid foundation for the further growth of bilateral ties," Sun told reporters after his meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Obeid.
"These cultural activities in Egypt will open a window on China, and bridge two ancient civilizations," Sun said, adding that the two countries reached consensus on enhancing cultural exchanges in the years to come.
"During the meeting, Prime Minister Obeid suggested that Egypt and China would tap potentials of cooperation in the areas of publications, film and television and Internet," Sun said.
"The two countries would be able to work together to protect cultural relics," he added.
Sun arrived here Monday to attend a Chinese culture week in Egypt, which is due to open later in the day.
The event will be held in Cairo and the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, providing an opportunity for the Egyptians to enjoy Beijing Opera, acrobatics and traditional Chinese music.
During the event, a Chinese cultural center will be inaugurated in Cairo, the first of its kind in the Arab world and Africa.
The Chinese culture week in Egypt is the fourth after China staged the event in the United States, France and Germany.
