Young Stock Market Investors Stir Controversy
Adjust font size:

A large number of new investors including young college students are being attracted to the China's current bull stock market.

A recent survey by jxnews.com.cn found a rising number of students in major Chinese cities were playing the stock market with most investing the money given to them by their parents to cover living expenses. The survey also found students majoring in economics accounted for only a small proportion.

The results have sparked intense debate as many say the unpredictable stock market distracts students from their studies. But others argue it's an excellent way for them to sharpen their financial skills.

A college student in southwestern Sichuan Province was recently reported to have made a total of 300,000 yuan (US$38,667) on the stock market in the last three years. But experts warn not all will be that lucky and suggest students spend less time making risky investments.
