Chinese Mainland -- Outbreak Situation Updates (2004)

Since the Chinese mainland confirmed the first bird flu outbreak in Dingdang Town, Long'an County in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on January 27, 16 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have reported 49 confirmed cases of the disease. As follows:

Feb. 17 Shaodong County and Heshan District of Yiyang City in central China's Hunan Province.  
Feb. 16 Macheng City, Songzi City, Honghu City, Gong'an County and Yangxin County in central China's Hubei Province; Shaoguan City of south China's Guangdong Province; and Lhasa City in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. A suspected case is reported in Baicheng City of northeast China's Jilin Province.
Feb. 15   Two suspected cases are reported in Huanggang City, central China's Hubei Province and the Songming County, southwest China's Yunnan Province.
Feb. 14 Jiangcheng District of Yangjiang City, Maogang District of Maoming City and Doumen District of Zhuhai City in south China's Guangdong Province and Xingning District of Nanning City in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Shilin County and Xishan District of Kunming City in southwest China's Yunnan Province; Luoding City, Jiedong County and Shenzhen City in south China's Guangdong Province; Nanhui District of east China's Shanghai Municipality; and Jinnan District of north China's Tianjin Municipality.

A suspected case is reported in Shaoguan City of south China’s Guangdong Province.

Seven suspected cases are reported in Honghu City, Gong’an County, Songzi City and Yangxin County in central China’s Hubei Province; Shaodong County and Heshan District of Yiyang City in central China’s Hunan Province; and Jiangcheng District of Yangjiang City in south China’s Guangdong Province.

Feb. 10 Dongxiang County in east China's Jiangxi Province; Wujiagang District of Yichang City in central Hubei Province; Guandu District of Kunming City in southwest China's Yunnan Province; and the No. 12 Agricultural Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.  
Feb. 9   Four suspected cases are reported in Jinnan District of north China's Tianjin Municipality; Macheng City of central China's Hubei Province; Anning City of southwest China's Yunnan Province and Huayin City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
Feb. 8 Xiangcheng District of Xiangfan City in central China's Hubei Province; Chang'an District of Xi'an City in northwest China's Shaanxi Province; Gaolan County in northwest China's Gansu Province; Pingjiang County in central China's Hunan Province; Haifeng County in south China's Guangdong Province; and Yongkang City in east China's Zhejiang Province. Three suspected cases are reported in Xingning District of Nanning City in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Doumen District of Zhuhai City and Maogang District of Maoming City in Guangdong Province.
Feb. 7 Ezhou City in central China's Hubei Province; Pingyu County in central China's Henan Province; Qingyunpu District of Nanchang City in east China's Jiangxi Province. Two suspected cases are reported in Xishan District of Kunming City in southwest China's Yunnan Province and Xigu District of Lanzhou City in northwest China's Gansu Province.
Feb. 5 Guangde County, Yushan District of Ma'anshan City, Jieshou City and Yingzhou District of Fuyang City in east China's Anhui Province; Guixi City in east China's Jiangxi Province. Four suspected cases are reported in Dongxiang County in east China's Jiangxi Province, Shilin County in southwest China's Yunnan Province, Luoding City and Haifeng County in south China's Guangdong Province.
Feb. 4 Chenggong County in southwest China's Yunnan Province. Two suspected cases are reported in Guandu District of Kunming City in Yunnan Province and Gaolan County in northwest China's Gansu Province.
Feb. 3 Chao'an County in south China's Guangdong Province. Seven suspected cases are reported in Anning District of Lanzhou City and Jingyuan County in northwest China's Gansu Province; Fuyang and Jieshou cities in east China's Anhui Province; Pingjiang County in central China's Hunan Province; Xiangfan City in central China's Hubei Province; and Xi'an City in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
Feb. 1   Five suspected cases are reported in Yongkang City, east China's Zhejiang Province; Yichang, central China's Hubei Province; Chenggong County, southwest China's Yunnan Province; Pingyu County, central China's Henan Province; and a division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corp. in remote Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China.
Jan. 31   Ezhou City in central China's Hubei Province and Chao'an County in south China's Guangdong Province reports two suspected cases.
Jan. 30 Wuxue City in Hubei Province and Wugang City in Hunan Province, both in central China. Nanhui District in Shanghai, Guangde County and Ma'anshan City in east China's Anhui Province and Jiedong City in south China's Guangdong Province report four separate suspected bird flu outbreaks.
Jan. 27 Authorities confirm the death of ducks in Dingdang Town, Long'an County in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, caused by the deadly H5N1 strain of the bird flu virus. Deaths of poultry reported at a chicken-raising household in Wuxue City in central China's Hubei Province and at a duck-raising household in Wugang City in neighboring Hunan Province. Local veterinary departments preliminarily diagnose the cause of the death as possible infections of the H5N1 strain of bird flu virus.
